I won!

In honor the father from "A Christmas Story", who just recently passed away... "I won, I won, it is a major award!" It's not coming tonight, though. :)

Well okay so it isn't really a major award for me either, but I did win something. In my internet travels into the knitting world, I came across Vogue's Knit 1 blog site. You can go visit it right here. My knitting pal Sean turned me on to the magazine.

Anyway, I entered a contest on a whim and I won a little knitting bag that you can take with you when you travel (convienent, no?). I am excited because when I get it, I will be able to take my knitting on the subway or bus when we go to Seoul. If you want to know what it looks like, go over to this site.

It is a good morning when you wake up at 5am and realize you got something cool. I can hardly wait for it to get to me!!

My first hat - scalloped hat

Okay, so this is the 1st hat I have ever knitted. I got the "recipe" for it from "one more row" which you can see here. I am not sure why my brim did not scallop like hers because I used the kind of yarn and followed the directions. That being said, I still love my hat. It only took me four hours to make it! And I am a slow knitter. I did it today while Harland job hunted. Sure beats just sitting around in bed blowing my nose.

Here is a picture of me wearing the hat. i have been really sick for the past three days, so please do not judge me on how I look in this photo. I am actually surprised that my nose doesn't look that red in this picture.


I wanted a funky hat that would go with my coat. And one that would go with other things as well (my coat being quite and odd color). I like the way the stiches look with the thick and thin yarn. I thought it would be harder to knit with, but it actually was fairly easy.

practice hat

I decided to make a practice hat when I received my first Addi Turbos and hank of yarn in the mail. So I got some of my extra orange yarn and tried out the basics of a hat. I had never used circular needles or decreased (well, on purpose) before so I wanted to try it out on something I didn't care if I messed up.


So here is the first practice hat. i want to make it clear that while a bear is wearing the hat, the hat is not intended to be a bear hat. I am not making clothes for my teddies.


Here is the "hat" after I felted it. This is actually the first thing I have felted! I felted it in the sink last night. It is a good way to attempt to clean out your sinuses with steam. Now it is a bowl that I keep my stich markers (thanks Sean) and needles in (thanks Susan).

So there you have it, my first non-scarf project that is completed! It is just a little silly.
