Well, color me tagged. I have never been tagged before. WEll! I never! I think this means I have to fill out the following form on my blog. So here it goes.

1. One book that changed your life: Smart Women Finish Rich, by David Bach. Even if you are not a lady this book explains a lot of financial things. His other books are good too so if reading a book for women makes you cringe, check out his other titles. He also has free exerpts on his website.

2. One book that you've read more than once: Well gee, if you know me at all you know this list is really long. Let me pick one that comes to mind immediatly: The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Milan Kundera.

3. One book you'd want on a desert island: It would have to be long. And interesting. Maybe Sacajewea by Anna L. Waldo. It was good. But I want the hardback version on the Island, because the paperback version I had in High School started to lose its front pages when I got to the middle.

4. One book that made you laugh: Me Talk Pretty One Day, David Sedaris. All his books are funny - but this one is the absolute funniest.

5. One book that made you cry: You mean other than #4? Because it had me laughing so tears rolled out of my eyes. Okay, Okay. You know I am having a hard time thinking of one right this second. Anything that had a dog die. Or a likable character die.

6. One book that you wish had been written: "How to build a teleporter to get to work instantly"

7. One book you wish had never been written: I don't think I know of any. Maybe anything that has to do with detailed descriptions of how to kill someone.

8. One book you're currently reading: The Best American NonRequired Reading 2005, Dave Eggars.

9. One book you've been meaning to read: Sensational Knitted Socks, Charlene Schurch.

HI - I have not knit much lately. Still working on the secret thing. I have knit like three rows on it. I am terribly busy trying to learn about executive compensation for my new job. It is very confusing for my old brain.

Anyway - if you have approximately 4 minutes with nothing to do and want to watch something simple yet somehow mesmorizing and yet funny - check out the following video. I saw OK GO like years ago when I was a grad student when they opened up for They Might Be Giants. I thought they were pretty good. But now that I can see what they can do with a couple of treadmills... well let's just say I am incredibly impressed - so impressed in fact that this is the first non-knitting link to an outside video that has ever been included on this website.

I reccommend you watch it. I have. 3 times today because it really amused me. It will amuse you too (especailly if you have had a long week).

nothing is coming up socks today!

If you would like a cheerier sock post - see the two below. I need a moment to complain.

You see, I have used Silver's sock tutorial as a great basis for worsted weight socks (personally I think the gussett is a little baggy if you are using regular sock yarn and size 3's but the instructions are fabu for worsted weight socks).

So I decided in a whim when I was buying some yarn for the super secret socks to buy some metal needles too so I can cruise throught hese socks. Today I had finished the decreasing on the gusset, and I decided to try them on. And they do not fit!!

So then I look at the needles and pull out my bamboo size 6 ones.

My bamboo ones are .25 MM bigger! Augh. So now I have to frog an almost finished sock, Darn it!

So are size 6 sock needles supposed to be 4MM or 4.25MM?

Back to the bamboo ones which make my socks fit. And back to starting over! I would like to finish these by Satudrday! Oh no! Will I be able to do it?

Everything's coming up socks

Well, today I bought some regular wool yarn to make a surprise pair of socks for a surprise for a certain soon-to-be surprised person. How do you like that? I do not want to divulge until it has been received.

Anyway... the other sock that I have shown on here are coming right along - I am working on the decreases to start the gusset. This is a little blurry, but you get the idea.


But the third exciting item in sock news today is that Pink Dandelion and her Momma Bear have given up their secret recipe for their double color slipper socks (unlucky for me it was divulged after the super secret socks and after I started a Christmas present so I must finish 4 socks before I can start these super cool slipper socks) and you can see them here on Mama Bear's Website - beartoes.com

So go see a quickly knit sock that looks fabulous! Leave a comment to let Ms. bear know you were there... And make one. Go ahead - make me jealous it will be weeks before I can pick out yarn to make these for unsuspecting people for the holidays.

Shore it's a sock

Well, I did a little bit of work on the sock on the way to the shore and also a little bit in the morning before we headed to the beach. But really I could have done more knitting - but it WAS THE BEACH! Who wants to stay out of the sand and surf to knit!?!

(and yes there are more bamboo needles, I forgot one of the metal ones at the house, then I lost one in Harland's car! And we can not find it!! But I really think I like metal needles better for sock knitting. Usually I hate metal needles. Oh well.)

This one was taken early in the morning before anyone really headed to the beach.


And this one was when our group started to set up - see the Chicago Bears Umbrella? That is part of our group - and what a group it was! Grandpa, My uncle Johnny, my aunt Patty, my uncle John, my aunt Joanne and my cousin Lisa, her little boy Nick and her husband Rick, my parents and Harland and I were all there! Talk about a beach party!

It has begun!

Okay here is the sock so far, I haven't really worked on it long - I had to roll my yarn into a ball first because I am terrible about finding the part of the skein to pull out to find the end of the yarn - then I end up with so much yarn not in the skein that I have to roll it up into a pull center ball and while I am at it I might as well roll the whole thing. My balls are terribly lopsided though...

(this is why with my first paycheck - I am putting money aside and will wait until I get a coupon and then I shall buy a ball winder)

Anyway - As you can see there is one bamboo needle in there. You may also notice it is certainly not a toe up sock. That is because I decided to make the sock on the yarn label. I know - not too terribly crazy - but I wanted to just do a mindless easy sock in the car this weekend. The directions called for 5 needles so this is my first time with 4 live needles instead of 3.

Hopefully I will actually get two socks out of one ball!
We'll see how far I get, if you know me at all you know if I am not driving I fall asleep instantly in a car. Whoopies. I remember falling asleep on the way to Montgomery,AL form Auburn and that is like a half hour ride!

It is Sock time!

Okay officially I feel bad because I am not supposed to be spending money. But in reality I am delighted to get back to knitting and doing somehting other than squares. So today I went to ACMoore (it is close by and I also went to Michael's right across the street but they had only size 8 DPNS) and I bought some magic stripes in purple pattern to make a Christmas present. And I had to get some DPNs because mine are on a boat somewhere in the Pacific. I got some metal ones, we'll see how much i like them.

Now to pick a sock pattern. I am thinking of Toe-Up since cute KB is trying one. I like to stay on top of socks as he is or he will no longer call me the sock hero, and that does wonders for my poor knitting ego.

So Here I go! I am excited!

I am back in action!

Hello everyone - I am back to the states and have settled down a bit (not totally yet, won't have an apartment until Sept. 9th!) but enough to start knitting again. I have made some more washcloths (boring I know) and really haven't had the mindset to do anything other than little cotton squares. I will probably keep on making more until I move into the apt. and actually have all of my things in one spot (which since I havn't had that since December I can't even imagine what that is like anymore). And then - I have to start some baby things and Presents for Christmas! Will I get it all done? I have no idea!

But in the next few days I should have some pictures to share. So don't give up on this blog - because I am back!!
