3 INCHES OF SNOW AND SOCKS

Hi everyone...
Well it is a snowy day here. It was supposed to turn to rain or freezing rain, but that never happened. I, of course, am a perpetual 12 year-old inside who wants work closed tomorrow. Ah... remember 2 hour delays? I wish I had those!! Hubby and I really need to buy a shovel. I know we live in an apt. and all, but our apt. people do not shovel or plow much around here. We're supposed to get rain and freezing rain later tonight - so who knows.

Anyway... we have some snow and we have had a nice lazy Sunday here watching "Race to the moon" which we checked out of our library. The centreville Library really has a poor DVD collection... I think they have less DVDs than we have here at home. This Documentary was really well done and very interesting. It makes me wonder why we don't spend more money to do more space stuff. Well, I mean I know why we haven't ( we have to spend money on a certain war) but I wish we could. Weren't we all supposed to have personal spacecrafts and robots by now??

On the knitting front - I haven't knitted a whole lot lately - the convention last week really took up my entire weekend and this week I think I knitted twice. Shame on me!! But I finished AMy's present. I haven't mailed it yet. I really have to go to the Post Office and mail my Dad his EXTREMELY late Birthday present and Amy's slightly belated gift. Honestly, I am the worst about getting to the post office.

I started H's socks so I can take them when I commute and I am starting my cousin's scarf as well. Yay!!

On a different note, I have some Socks that Rock Yarn laying around... What is your favorite pattern used for this yarn if you have used it? I bought the lightweight. What size needles did you use? I want these socks to be perfect... so I am unsure what pattern to use. You know how it is.

So I'm on yarn ban

Hello. I have spent some money and I think Harland laid down the law of no more yarn until I finish the things I recently bought. The other day I bought some yarn for a birthday present and some for myself. The self present was for new sock yarn for myself so I could make myself a pair of socks.

But then today I bought some more. Some of you know I am at a class this weekend for the American Red Cross and they had a little store setup and this was there:




And I have had my eye on it for months. So who can really blame me? Want to buy on for a knitter you know? Or maybe yourself. Go here! I say it is a lot better than if I had a jewelry compulsion or a shoe compulsion or something - I mean I think yarn should be considered a form of entertainment. Sure, a skein of yarn over at blue moon (this is the color I got) may cost 20 bucks. But what other 20 bucks can entertain a person on their commute for 2-4 weeks? And then have something to show for it? Nothing.

Well the temps out side are still freezing but today it got a little bit warmer. You can tell from the icicles... The big one is almost 2 feet long!! (you can't tell because I took the picture from so far away).

Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day! (AKA Singles Awareness Day, as Elena calls it) It has been a pretty eventful V-day for me here. First of all I got flowers yesterday (see post below for pics) and we had terrible weather last night which lead to the office being closed today! Yay! So I got to work from home, which was nice. No commute! Think of what I could do if I didn't waste 3-3.5 hours a day commuting! It was soooo wonderful.

Plus H. was home so we both worked from home which was quite a nice bonus for valentine's day.

It warmed up enough and stuff melted for a little bit that we could get out to eat at Ruby Tuesday's which is where we met (with Susan! It would have been better if she could have magically gotten here and come with!)

So it was a super nice day - I even got a card from my Mom and Dad!

I'm just dreading trying to get out of the parking lot tomorrow - you see everything that melted earlier is now (as I type) freezing. It's supposed to get down to the teens and we have winds up to 40MPH! Yuck.

I was thinking of Valentine's Days past... and some of the best ones... I remember from when I was little with Mom and Dad... they always did a good job of including me and making a nice memorable day. I also remember the V-day after I was dumped by my first boyfriend and I met a friend of mine for some drinks in the bar (she got her divorce papers a few days before) and we watched the dog show on TV in the bar. It was pretty fun. Another Valentine's day after a breakup with a different person I ate sushi and had my first sake with my friend Heather (hey if anyone knows Heather's new address let me know! I can't get in touch with her!)

So see - I have a lot of memorable days from when I was single, and a lot of them were better than when I was with someone! I mean the first V-day when I was married? H. was halfway around the world, the florists delivered the flowers at 4pm - way after I left work and I thought he forgot about me. Then when I got to work the next day they were all dead since they were not in water! Then the second one when we were married? He had so much work that he didn't even eat his dinner when it was warm- he spent most of the time on the phone.

Tuesday the 13th

I went on a business trip - here is a picture out my hotel window and the second picture is out the window of the office building in Philly.



And here is a picture of the room. We were wined and dined because it was the new orientation.



Well if you are anywhere near me - you know it is not pleasant outside. Yuck. It took me two hours to get home today and I left work early. Bleck.

Anyway, on a plus note they delivered these to my work a day early. I brought them home to enjoy them. It was not fun taking them on the subway. But since I thought maybe the weather would be bad and I might leave early - I drove to the subway stop today instead of taking the bus (my bus is a commuter bus and doesn't operate until 4).



I finished these for my co-worker. They are from "Last-minute knitted gifts" as well.



They are pretty fun - I made them from the Noro Cash Iroha yarn I had gotten the other week.

One more square

Well, I finished another square today - this time it was the mosaic style of knitting - and I have to say This Pattern Rocks!! I love it to pieces. I am thinking someday making a felted bag with this pattern, wouldn't that look neat?

Anyway - I may get another square or two done - I have to travel to Philly for another business trip. They have our days packed from 7:30am to 11pm so we'll see how much knitting I get done. At least I'll have the train ride there and back!!

I didn't have any of the weaving-in trouble as I did yesterday (see post below). And I love mosaic knitting - since you only deal with one yarn at a time and used slipped stitches to get the other color involved - it is really simple and looks really fun. The reason is is so curled is because it is in stockinette stitch.

Go Colts (gotta root for my man Dungy, loved him when he was with the Bucs, he is a good man)!! Hubby is rooting for the Bears since he used to live in Chicago... so either way we'll be happy in this house.

Help Is needed

There are several things to report here...
1. Bought some yarn from Supercrafty and it came in two days - all the way from CA! If you haven't read about her and her dear son on CrazyAuntPurl's blog or on KB's blog, you can read about her here.
and her store has lots of awesome yarn and notions. You should check it out.


2.I started the afghan as I said in an earlier post - and this is my first square. I decided that the green was just a no-go. There needed to be a better contrast.

3. However I realized really soon that I am not so good at the weaving in of ends. People have tried to explain to me how you can knit the ends in as you go - and I just can't get my head around it. Any advice?? Because I don't want an afghan that looks great... until you pull it over your head and you see the world through this:

4. I think I know what I want to make Susan for Christmas next year. But I can't buy the yarn for it yet. Not that it is expensive or hard to get or anything. But I know if I make it, I'll immediately want to give it to her. I have no giving willpower when it comes to Susan or Harland.

Thirteen Things Things I hate about the Washington DC Metro (one thing I do like is that it gets me to work!! Maybe I'll think of 12 more for next week) 1. When they only have 1 train every 10-20 minutes during rush hour. 2. When they say a train is coming in X minutes and it turns out to be one of those empty trains that don't pick up passengers - they should just not put those on the sign and get our hopes up. 3. When (for whatever reason) someone who weighs upwards of 300 pounds sits next to you while you are knitting and there are EMPTY seats where they could have TWO seats to themselves to sit in!! 4. People who don't get out of your way so you can get off the train even when you politely say "excuse me". 5. People who run down the stairs at Courthouse station in the morning on the wrong side to try and catch a train where the doors are already shutting. A) People are trying to go up the stairs, please let them go to work and B)The doors are already shutting, you aren't going to make it, folks. You're just not. 6. People who sneeze or cough without covering their nose/mouth 7. People who jump on the track to commit suicide. If you must do that, there are better and nicer ways. Think of the poor driver. Think of the passengers that will be injured. 8. The Metro buses that are on my route leak. I mean buckets. I have seen people put on their hoods, I have seen people put up umbrellas, and I have had to move several times. I think it could probably fixed with some duct tape or something. 9. Young men (and women) who don't give up their seats to seniors/disabled/people with casts/etc. 10. On a similar vein as number 8, buses that have windows that don't shut and subway cars whose doors stick open. 11. People who talk (very loudly) on their cell phone really loudly about nothing. 12. Drunk people who try to hit on people, and when unsuccessful literally move down two seats and try on the next single person. We are in a car. You are talking loudly. The next person knows you just tried the same pick-up tactic. We all do. And we all know it won't work this time either. 13.
