Enough with the blood and saliva already

So my hubster had his wisdom teeth out this morning - and he's still got one place that is still bleeding, poor guy. We even tried the teabag trick and it's still bleeding a tiny bit. Let's hope before bedtime it stops.

Me? I am officially one of the world's worst nurses because I can't look at his "spitoon" without gagging when I wash it out. Yuck. But then we did have a "spillage" episode and I didn't gag then so maybe I am getting better. I don't know how I'll have kids. They create all kinds of bodily messes...

In other news the exterminator came and looked at our floor and was like "um... in the middle of the floor, huh. Haven't seen that. I'll talk with the apt people right away and see if they can tear up the carpet."

Needless to say hours passed and I had to call the apt people up - only to learn that all the stuff I cleared out of our closet now has to be put back in because no one is coming for an entire week.

I've knitted today to keep my head out of thinking about old blood n' guts on the couch. I have about 3/4 of a hat finished from the book Last-minute Knitted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson . This is the first thing I have actually knitted from this book even though it was one of my first books. I love the pictures in it and often flip through it just to see the colors. There are a lot of complaints that all of these projects take longer than you think they will (the projects are divided into projects that take a certain amount of time, for example the hat is in the "4-6 hour" category) but she does state that the smallest size of the project is what they based on time. And we all know a baby hat takes less time than a grown-up one. I can't finish it tonight anyway - I need to get some double pointed needles in size 9. And I'm almost to the point of using the DPNs.... so.... maybe if I have time tomorrow night after work I can go get some.




Harland looks like he is finally taking a nap. I guess I better stop typing and go read quietly in the other room. Cheers!

What I have been up to

So it was pointed out to me yesterday (Hi Dad!) that I haven't posted in a while. Sorry. Last week was really busy. I had some volunteering stuff to do with the Red Cross and then I had to work overtime and I went to Auburn to close out bank accounts and to get the stuff out our safety deposit box.

A HUGE fringe benefit is I got to see Tyler, Eric, John, Brigitta, Troy and Susan. Had I seen one more person I think my head would have exploded from too much fun. One day and a half was WAY too short and I wish I could have stayed a week or more.

I'll share some pictures through-out the week. The best part was Susan liked her mittens! I was worried they weren't her style but she said she liked them. Now I just have to finish my other zillions of late Christmas presents.

So Kristina over at Yarnsticks gets me involved in all kinds of internet goodies. There is a movement to get knitters out there and moving a little so we don't sit on the couch knitting all day (knitting potatoes). You can read all about his challenge over Here at her blog

It's good because I wanted to get started running/walking/hiking anyway and so any extra motivation will help.

So, Today, my first cold free day of the new year (just a tiny cough now!!) I went to our tiny apt. gym and did the elliptical for 20 minutes.

1.16 miles so far! I'm a little behind because I didn;t walk at all last week or hike or run because I was laid up with my cold! But I'll catch up I am sure. I did walk on Saturday at the capital but I have no idea how far that was.

So here is a little ticker. Poor little thing still looks like it is on 0.



Well, I have a business trip this week so I am not sure when I'll post again!!

Amy's Visit!!!!

So one of my bestest friends in the whole wide world came to visit me this weekend!


It was soooo nice to see her, but I have to admit her departure was very sad indeed and I realized how much I miss having girl friends. DC is nice and all but it is weird to be married and not have any friends. I know from moving around a lot it always takes about a year to find a really close friend, so I am not concerned at all... Just a little lonely.

But anyway, let's move away from all that mopey-ness! We decided to head to DC yesterday and go to the art museum.

And y'all it was 73 degrees out yesterday. The birds were out in full force.



People were in shorts playing Frisbee on the mall lawn and even doing this:


It's January?!?! In Virginia?!? Not that I am really complaining... but remember my post of 33 degrees on October 13th? I was so sad and worried it would be so cold from then on. Thank goodness it hasn't been that way at all!! And I got to wear short sleeves! In January! Outside!

New Year, Old Cold

Okay there should be laws against having a cold for longer than a week. This darn thing will NOT go away! Tonight since I got home - Lost my voice and have a sore throat. On the plus side I can finally taste.

So Kristina at Yarnsticks tagged me so I need to write six things about me that are weird. This is going to be a piece of cake. There are lot more than 6 weird things about me. Here are the ones that I thought of first.

1. I hate raw tomatoes, but like the following: sun dried tomatoes, ketchup, medium and hot salsa, and will on occasion even eat bruschetta if it has enough basil and garlic.

2. My favorite type of cake is yellow cake with chocolate icing but I do not really like chocolate cake with white icing.

3. I like to arrange my CD collection by color of the cd's spine because somehow I remember the color (for example: The Smiths Best Album 1 - yellowish orange, Ani Difranco's more Joy, Less Shame - light blue, Smashing Pumpkin's Siamese Dream - red). However right now they are not organized and it is driving me crazy, but not crazy enough yet to organize. Laziness has won out thus far.

4. Prior to teaching Public Speaking I used to be really scared of speaking. And sometimes I get anxious before going to parties... which usually people are surprised to learn about me since I seem pretty comfy anywhere.

5. My favorite thing to do is to cook for someone. You know I like you if I offer to cook for you. Or make something for you. I think I will be a fantastic grandmother (can I skip the mother part?)

6. I started liking shrimp this year. I used to hate shrimp as much as tomatoes. But now I love the little buggers. yum! I blame this squarely on Lenka's head since she first grilled shrimp for me that I actually liked.
